Battlefield Bad Company 2 not working or crash to deaktop with Windows Vista
I purchased Battlefield Bad Company 2 for the PC and was eager to play some online multiplayer warfare. I pop open the DVD drive and load it onto my Gamer Laptop PC.
The specs of the Gaming Laptop -
Intel Core 2 Duo DUAL CORE
512MB nVidia GeForce 7950GTX PCI-Express Video
3gb DDR2 Ram
160gb 7200 rpm HD
Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/g/n
Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS)
After an hour of loading and online update it said play now! Woot Woot lets go! The game launches and everything loads to the menu screen, now time for some multiplayer action! Five minutes later loading the server list I click join. Then the game crashed to desktop or white screen, Big WTF! OK lets try single player mode, WTF that crashed to desktop too. So I go into settings change video to LOW settings with no luck it still crashes to desktop. Next I updated my video drives and audio drivers BFBC2 still crashed or freezes. Looking on my desktop there was no Battlefield Bad Company 2 icon or anything at all in the Start, Programs menu. Thinking that was odd i deleted and reinstalled BFBC2. Still no icons and not working.
Searching online I found some fixes that i thought might work.
1. Run as admin (did not work)
2. Go to Documents, BFBC2 Folder, find settings, click it, find “dxversion=” change it to dxversion=9 (or 10) (did not work)
3. Disable your virus scanner and re-install Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (did not work)
The FIX
I had this same kinda of problem installing Battlefield 2 and never got it to install with widows vista. Looking in my disk collection I found a copy of Windows XP Media Center. So i thought F*** it, I Backed Up my Gamer Laptop HD and deleted everything. I put the Windows XP cd in and installed it then updated all drivers next re-installed Battlefield Bad Company 2. Now on the desktop I see an BFBC2 icon, WooT WooT! Clicked the icon and the game started, single player and multiplayer work fine now.
So if you are running Windows Vista and cant play BFBC2 try loading up Windows XP and you will be Happy!

[..YouTube..] I have an open ticket in with EA. They exhausted their solutions with the first tier of support and my ticket has been bumped to tier 2. If they get a fix for it, I’ll post it here.

[..YouTube..] *signed*
April 28th, 2010 at 6:57 am
[..YouTube..] This happens in the steam version as well. I thought maybe it was a dx10 issue and since i was running XP that was the problem but the truth is the game is a crappy port. It streams textures from the hard disk and that causes most of the trouble. thats why working theory right now since MW2, Crysis , ME2, and everything else runs fine.
April 28th, 2010 at 7:01 am
[..YouTube..] @dbrandinni yeah I wish they had been more honest about the min specs. I suppose I don’t meet them even though I do. I have fixed the white issue but I still get black textures everywhere obscuring all and it crashes to desktop. changed dxversion, lowered settings, i dont know what else to do. I wish I could refund it.

I feel like shoving B2BC2 up EA and Steam’s asses. They freaking scam people this way. I bet a lot of people has already lost $50 to this bullshit.
April 30th, 2010 at 9:02 am
[..YouTube..] Same thing happened to me.

It looks like ping times are now bad on Battlefield 2 also.

This game is a complete and utter piece of crap. In 13 years of FPS gaming online I have NEVER seen a game do this. Mine crashes with a BSOD every single time it finishes loading a map. This is a problem on THEIR END not ours. There are THOUSANDS of people with this problem EVERYWHERE, and it’s not getting better. Some report one thing or another fixing it, but for most people NOTHING FIXES IT. Some people report shutting off their sound card, which is utterly $@%!ing STUPID. Someone at EA and DICE needs hung by the neck for this crap. It doesn’t matter what your hardware is. It doesn’t matter what drivers you have. It’s not an OC issue. It’s their crappy coding, period.
May 28th, 2010 at 12:14 pm
[..YouTube..] anything yet dude?
June 1st, 2010 at 2:19 pm
[..YouTube..] Same deal for me. I can’t play multiplayer either because it crashes as soon as the server loads up. I’m thinking my computer just cant handle the stress of the game, although I can run MW2 and COD WaW. 7600GS go, 1.73Ghz dual core processor, 2 gigs of RAM on an almost 4 year old computer.
June 6th, 2010 at 12:35 am
[..YouTube..] @killuminatii1 what dx version did u used/use for fixing the crash?
June 6th, 2010 at 5:33 am
[..YouTube..] @FusioTe

July 1st, 2010 at 3:00 pm
[..YouTube..] This is what has been happening to me. I fixed it this evening by doing the following. My graphics card is an nvidia geforce 7900 gs. Windows told me I had the most up to date drivers. A m8 told me to go to the NVIDIA website and download the most up to date driver from there. I did, I installed it and the game works perfectly. Try going to your manufacturers website and d/l from there….hope it works…did for me

[..YouTube..] if u have old version of DX download 9 or 10 they work .. if u have dx11 like in windows7 or vista u can start BFBC2 with dx10 without changing ur dx11, go to (( my documents )) folder theres bfbc2 folder there open then open the settings file go to DXversion=auto change it to DXversion=10 … thats how u start the game with dx10 and that how i fixed my bfbc2 problems i hope it works with u guys have fun
