Speed Up Firefox With Two Tiny Tricks!

Ever wished your browser could be faster? Or just appear faster? Well, with this quick trick it can!

All you have to do is type about:config in your browser bar. Once you’re in filter for “network.http”. Then find “network.http.pipelining” and double click the value to change it to true. Then find “network.http.proxy.pipelining” and change it’s value to true. Now, find “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and change the value to eight or more. The reason it’s eight is because that’s the most http requests that Firefox can send. Setting it higher won’t break it, but it won’t do anything either! Now, lastly what you’re going to do is right click somewhere and choose new>integer.

After that, you should get a message asking you to name your new integer, call it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay”. After that, restart firefox and you should be browsing at a tidbit closer to light speed.

Feeling Launchy?

If you are like me and feel that having to dig through your start menu every single day is a bane of your life and wastes time then I have just the program for you to use.

The program is called Launchy. Launchy is an open source keystroke program which allows you to search through applications and launch them. But it can also do other tasks such as searching on Google for a website such as EZ Computer Help.

Last week while we was in the process of switching all our content and getting the new EZ Computer Help up and running i found this very cool plugin for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. The reason that i find this to be a cool application is that whenever i search on Google now, the links will be highlighted in one of three colors.

These colors help a user to determine whether to visit the website or not. The way websites are ranked are determined by the users who have also visited the site.

This is great for those who want to make sure that the websites they go on are safe and for those who need that extra sense of security.

Now if your like me and you like podcasts but only have an iPod nano then this program might be what you need. Back in september when the new iPods were released i wanted the nano. For some reason the bigger iPods have never appealed to me. Then i discovered this great web application that suits alot of my video watching needs. From Vidcasts to YouTube, this has it all and the best thing is that it is Open Source meaning that it is free!

To get in depth about some of the features one of my favourite features would be the ability to search websites like YouTube via the application and then be able to subscribe to a user or search and then download it. The whole interface is fairly intuitive. Combined with RSS integration for downloading podcasts and if you don’t feel like paying for a video iPod this is the perfect application for you.

How to speed up Firefox

Sometimes when I load a page in Firefox it would take a while before it would load up, even on broadband speeds. The problem occurred to me that Firefox was not sending enough to requests to the page. So here’s a little tip for you to speed up those load times and the best part is that it is real simple to do even if it looks confusing.

What you want to do first is go to the address bar and type in “about:config”

Then in the filter tab search these items and set them accordingly

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

Once you have done that right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″.

Now you should observe that web pages will load faster and in some cases extremely faster
