Microsoft Network Inspection System stopped working and was closed. “A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.”

After looking this up on Google, I see this:

“I Tried Downloading the Nis and the security essentials update definitions from Microsoft.com neither fixed the problem I really need help.”

“Some time i get this pop up why and how do i fix this if it helps I’m running Vista Home premium it didn’t used to do this and I have no idea why it started.”

In my case I think I ran this app a few weeks ago but I really don’t remember now and I’m running Vista 32.

Update: I had been playing around in the network settings and clicking on random folders but nothing I did messed it up. This looks like it may be caused by a bug in a Microsoft Security Essentials update. If anyone has any ideas please post a comment.

When you do a Windows Update, does it keep showing an available update for Security Essentials definitions? It did on mine and I kept getting the same error you get.

You can try this but it did not work for me… Try going here: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/HowToMSE.aspx#MSE64bit

I get the same Security Essentials update error message. After trying all this nothing has fixed it, so delete Microsoft Security Essentials and Reinstall it. That so far has fix it for me (its only been 3 hours and over the past few weeks it has been popping up on one day but not the next).

Update: Deleting Microsoft Security Essentials and Reinstalling it seems to be the fix! I did this and the error did not come back.

2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.

1. Click Start

2. Click Accessories

3. Click System Tools

4. Click Disk Defragmenter

The next way to Defrag Computer

1. click on the “Start” button at the bottom of the screen. Then, click “My Computer”.

2. Right-click on the disk drive you want to defrag. If you want to defrag your C: drive, then right-click on “Local Disk (C:)”.

3. Click Properties

4. Click the Tools tab

5. Click the “Defragment Now” button.

6. Click to select the disk drive you want to defrag on a PC and then click “Defragment.” For most computers, this will be (C:).

Disk Defragmenter is a Utility included in Microsoft Windows designed to increase access speed by rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations, a technique commonly known as defragmenting. The purpose is to optimize the time it takes to read and write files to/from the disk by minimizing head travel time and maximizing the transfer rate. As of Windows XP, Disk Defragmenter is also used to improve system startup times.

This error code 0×80240016 happened to me while I tried to update Windows Defender. After some searching I found that it may be a problem with Skype and its associated plugins for Firefox and IE. When I clicked on the windows defender update icon in the lower right of the screen vista admin did not popup and ask if I wanted to OK this.. Only after I disabled the Skype plugin for Firefox then clicked on the lower right screen icon in the tray that the admin screen appeared then I clicked approve and windows defender updated with no problem.

Maybe I just got lucky, but I hope this might help other people with the error code 0×80240016 problem. This may be an Access Denied. Meaning You do not have sufficient permissions. Be sure you are logged on as an Administrator. I was already logged on as admin but it did not let me update the first time but it did the second time. If anyone else was able to fix the 0×80240016 error code problem please post a comment.

Other possible fixes to this are:

Reboot (log on as admin)

Try Updating again.

Uninstall Skype

Ever wished your browser could be faster? Or just appear faster? Well, with this quick trick it can!

All you have to do is type about:config in your browser bar. Once you’re in filter for “network.http”. Then find “network.http.pipelining” and double click the value to change it to true. Then find “network.http.proxy.pipelining” and change it’s value to true. Now, find “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and change the value to eight or more. The reason it’s eight is because that’s the most http requests that Firefox can send. Setting it higher won’t break it, but it won’t do anything either! Now, lastly what you’re going to do is right click somewhere and choose new>integer.

After that, you should get a message asking you to name your new integer, call it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay”. After that, restart firefox and you should be browsing at a tidbit closer to light speed.
