- Plug the iPod into your computer.
- In iTunes click on the iPod then make sure that Enable Disk Use is checked.
- Open “Windows Explorer” (click Start,Programs,Accessories,Windows Explorer)
- Right Click on the iPod in the left side of the screen.
- Go down to Properties and click.
- Now click the Tools Tab.
- Click the”Defragment Now” button.
- Click on the iPod drive then click Analyze button.
- After it is done you will see a screen that says something like “you do not need to defragment this volume” or “yes you should defragment”. You can click on the View Report button to see the full Analysis or Click the Defragment button to start defragmenting the iPod.
Now if you started defragmenting the iPod, it takes a long time to Defragment, so just do something else until its done.

It is recommended that you do this every six months because if you defrag too much there’s the slight chance that it will screw up your iPod.
