iPod Disk Mode

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off.
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  3. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
  4. Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say “Do not disconnect”

To get out of Disk Mode just Reset the iPod.

    This is most valuable information. I have done numerous searches throughout the inet and no luck, of course including Apple’s search forum. My 6th gen iPod was locked in “do not disconnect” after attempting the upgrade. Of course, this renders connecting to iTunes to reformat useless b/c iTunes did not recognize my iPod. This info is just priceless. Wish I found it 6 hours ago. Thanks much!

    [..YouTube..] After the Apple logo comes up, I do whats required to go into disk mode, and I keep holding it until the picture a circled Red X comes up. I have an iPod classic.

    my ipos was always in disk mode wen ever i connected to usb modem it was in disk mode only itunes are also not recognising my ipos so wat to do with this problem is there any softwear to instal into it

    [..YouTube..] i have a ipod nano 3rd gen and its corrupted. its been corrupted for a LONG LONG LONG time.i tunes WONT detect my ipod.i tried putting it in disk mode but i didnt know hoe long it would take.PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR DISKMODE TO RESTORE IT!

    my ipod nano 2nd gen repeatedly locks in disc mode and do not disconnect over and over ..
    I did not put into disc mode purposefully- I can get it out with suggested steps but keeps going in after days rest…help!!!

    my ipod was freeze by connection when i safely remove it it can’t turn off anymore the do not dissconnect logo is still apperaring plz give me tips how to fix it. (my ipod is ipod video)
