The Tools of Photoshop – Section One

PhotoshopCompHelp The Tools of Photoshop Section OneThis is the beginning of a new series dedicated to getting a user started on graphics design in Photoshop. I will build on this education in lessons after the basics are taught

So you have seen some awesome looking graphic work on the internet and you want to create something that is similar to it? or maybe you are a hobbyist wanting to learn something new. I am going to write a series on how to get started in Photoshop eventually start building on that to get you on your way to creating graphics for anything. The first thing that i am going to teach you are the tools that are available on the left side (by default when installed) of the window.

So Lets go over the First Section which is the red area on this image. If you observe one tool is a rectangular marquee graphic, or to put it simply a square with ant like outline. This can be used to highlight certain areas of an image and work on that section alone. For example I could use it to blur a certain section of an image or delete it.

On the right of that is an arrow like button with a sort of cross-hair. That tool is used to move a graphic or layer around.

Now the second rows first tool is hard to tell on the image (sorry) but it is a lasso tool. This works similarly to the rectangular marquee tool except you can point click with it or go “freehand” with it.

On the right of that tool is the Magic Wand. The Magic Wand is sometimes a blessing and sometimes a curse when coming to design. It’s all about configuring the settings to get it to do what you want to do.

On the third and final row of Section One is a Crop Tool. This may be familiar to you already if you use Microsoft Word. All this does is focus one part of an image and then you press enter and the image you highlighted is a new image that you will work on.

Finally on the right of the Crop Tool is the Pen Tool. This is one of the hardest tool’s to master and is a tool that I rarely, if ever, use. The thing with that tool is that it is very tricky and has specific purposes. One use of this is when you want to create Anime images.

Thank you for reading the first section of “The Tools of Photoshop” . This is intended for beginners to get started on Photoshop and to start getting familiar with the tools
