Uninstall AT&T Software from your AT&T Tilt HTC 8925 Windows Mobile 6.1
In this post will be showing you how to uninstall the AT&T bloatware from your AT&T Tilt Windows Mobile 6 cell phone. AT&T bloatware is the software that comes on all AT&T cell phones, this includes Xpress Mail, Get AT&T Navigator, AT&T Mail, AT&T Music, AT&T GPS, XM software, and other software that you don’t really need or want. All of this extra software uses more memory and slows the mobile phone down. After you uninstall the AT&T software you’re Windows Mobile 6.1 AT&T Tilt 8925 will be much faster.
The AT&T tilt comes from the factory with an AT&T software autorun File on it. When you buy the tilt from AT&T this software will automatically run and install all the AT&T bloatware onto your phone when you run it for the first time, or after a hard reset. What we are trying to do here is, “do a hard reset and then take out the battery”. What does taking out the battery do? If you take out the battery after a hard reset, it will not allow the AT&T software to run, not installing any of the AT&T bloatware, crapware ECT. This works on Windows mobile 6.0 and Windows mobile 6.1. Below you will find step-by-step instructions and a video on how to install the AT&T software from your Windows Mobile phone.
Step 1: click the Windows tab
Step 2: click settings
Step 3: click the system tab
Step 4: click the clear storage icon
Step 5: type 1234 click yes
Now wait for the setup to go through the process, this may take 2 to 5 minutes.
When you get to the “complete” screen, “Setup is complete. Tap the screen to begin using your device”. Now you must do this very fast. It’s better to have the battery door off before you do this. Tap the screen then quickly removed the battery. Wait for about 30 seconds then put the battery back inside the Tilt. If your phone boots up like normal and you don’t see any AT&T software then “you did it correctly”.
If your phone goes back into reset mode “doing a hard reset or clearing the memory” you must start all over. What I mean by start over is let it go through the whole hard reset process and right after the complete screen, take out the battery again. Warning this may take a few tries to do correctly. The last time I did this I had to take out the battery 7 times before it worked correctly, so don’t think after the first try if it didn’t work, it won’t work, or doesn’t work. It will work.
Assuming you did the battery trick correctly your tilt will run faster than when you took it out of the box. It’s like having just the mobile phone OS on your cell phone and nothing else just a fresh install of the OS. Kind of like when you buy a computer from Dell or HP and get all kinds of garbage software that runs on startup, uses hard drive space and slows your computer down, the same can be said about the AT&T software.
AT&T by default turns off Internet sharing. Well not really turns off more like hides Internet sharing, but it’s still there if you search in the Windows folder. Removing the AT&T software allows the Internet sharing icon to be present in the programs folder.
I also noticed the cell phone camera running much faster after doing this.
Here is the video showing you the step-by-step instructions.

I’d like to do this but am a little leery. What about Pocket Word, Excel & Powerpoint? There are also apps of Adobe and zipware. Does this process delete those as well? Does it delete only AT&T bloatware…or everything?
Thanks

Pocket Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will all come back. Adobe and zip will be there to.. This kills the AT&T extra software that runs.. You should sync with the pc first so you have your contacts, pics and whatever else.

Once I upgraded my rom on my tilt I cannot sync with active sync. It says it is connected, however, nothing is transfered. Since I cannot back-up, I should not uninstall windows. Also, is their simple way to use my tilt as a modem with my laptop? I have an unlimited media plan.
Thank you!

Do you have Windows Mobile Device Center running and installed?
March 2nd, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Although this works on the HTC Fuze, it does prevent all of the AT&T applications from installing, including TouchFlo and some of the other software that actually isn’t terrible.
Each application seems to have a .cab file in the windows directory associated with it, and it needs to be manually installed.
Wonderful article, tremendously useful. thanks!

Thank you for the Info on the HTC Fuze. On the tilt I did not want any att software on there.. Plus i did not have the cool stuff like TouchFlo so I wasn’t missing anything. If you did do this to the HTC Fuze, there may be a way to add the TouchFlo back onto the phone. XDA website may have a fix for that.
Thanks Again for the info and comment.

[...] For years I’ve been pining away for a true “all-in-one” device that is capable of everything I could think I need. Wi-Fi, GPS, bluetooth stereo, MP3’s, email, web browsing, add-ons, applications and more are mine since I have purchased my first Windows Mobile 6.1 device. Yes… I went to a mobile device. And I’m not looking back too much. So far the only dissapointment I have is the alarm on the device doesn’t have a “browse” button so I can use an mp3 for an alarm as opposed to the ultra-annoying prepackaged tones most companies “value-add” to their products. Speaking of the value-add ability of companies. I followed the instructions on this website to clean that vendor specific applications out of my phone: http://www.ezcomputerhelp.org/uninstall-att-software-from-your-att-tilt-htc-8925-windows-mobile-61/c... @darrell286 You have to go through the actual setup part first, then it will say setup complete :] I made the same mistake

No need to remove the battery. Just press the reset button with stylus as soon as the Today screen appears. If you do this after you have cleared the storage then go through the screen alignment/tutorial thing at first boot… the Today screen will appear… this is when you poke the tiny reset button with the stylus. As long as you poke the button while the Today screen is displayed, but before the ATT applet crap runs… your phone will never load the ATT software.

Yes this is true to. I just never could get it to work without removing the battery.. Thanks for the comment John!

[..YouTube..] hey Just BLaze I had that problem too with my 8525 when I use to have it. THE PROBLEM IS, that you have a disconnected wire inside of the phone. If you opening it “carefully” You will see that a wire might be Unplugged inside of the phone. Just Reconnect it or tape it together this time. And U should have sound back. U probably dropped it.

[..YouTube..] It dont work, it just keeps clearing storage at start up. Do i have to take sim card out or something?
December 5th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
[..YouTube..] open the phone and reconnect the wires. There might be a wire disconnected.
