Uninstall AT&T Software from your AT&T Tilt HTC 8925 Windows Mobile 6.1
In this post will be showing you how to uninstall the AT&T bloatware from your AT&T Tilt Windows Mobile 6 cell phone. AT&T bloatware is the software that comes on all AT&T cell phones, this includes Xpress Mail, Get AT&T Navigator, AT&T Mail, AT&T Music, AT&T GPS, XM software, and other software that you don’t really need or want. All of this extra software uses more memory and slows the mobile phone down. After you uninstall the AT&T software you’re Windows Mobile 6.1 AT&T Tilt 8925 will be much faster.
The AT&T tilt comes from the factory with an AT&T software autorun File on it. When you buy the tilt from AT&T this software will automatically run and install all the AT&T bloatware onto your phone when you run it for the first time, or after a hard reset. What we are trying to do here is, “do a hard reset and then take out the battery”. What does taking out the battery do? If you take out the battery after a hard reset, it will not allow the AT&T software to run, not installing any of the AT&T bloatware, crapware ECT. This works on Windows mobile 6.0 and Windows mobile 6.1. Below you will find step-by-step instructions and a video on how to install the AT&T software from your Windows Mobile phone.
Step 1: click the Windows tab
Step 2: click settings
Step 3: click the system tab
Step 4: click the clear storage icon
Step 5: type 1234 click yes
Now wait for the setup to go through the process, this may take 2 to 5 minutes.
When you get to the “complete” screen, “Setup is complete. Tap the screen to begin using your device”. Now you must do this very fast. It’s better to have the battery door off before you do this. Tap the screen then quickly removed the battery. Wait for about 30 seconds then put the battery back inside the Tilt. If your phone boots up like normal and you don’t see any AT&T software then “you did it correctly”.
If your phone goes back into reset mode “doing a hard reset or clearing the memory” you must start all over. What I mean by start over is let it go through the whole hard reset process and right after the complete screen, take out the battery again. Warning this may take a few tries to do correctly. The last time I did this I had to take out the battery 7 times before it worked correctly, so don’t think after the first try if it didn’t work, it won’t work, or doesn’t work. It will work.
Assuming you did the battery trick correctly your tilt will run faster than when you took it out of the box. It’s like having just the mobile phone OS on your cell phone and nothing else just a fresh install of the OS. Kind of like when you buy a computer from Dell or HP and get all kinds of garbage software that runs on startup, uses hard drive space and slows your computer down, the same can be said about the AT&T software.
AT&T by default turns off Internet sharing. Well not really turns off more like hides Internet sharing, but it’s still there if you search in the Windows folder. Removing the AT&T software allows the Internet sharing icon to be present in the programs folder.
I also noticed the cell phone camera running much faster after doing this.
Here is the video showing you the step-by-step instructions.

[..YouTube..] Good tip, I have had that crapware since I updated from 6.0 with a generously provided oem rom some kind soul on XDA had. I acquired my 8925 on ebay and found the 6.1 update was made to dissapear after a very short time. The main thing on my wish list is to find an app that actually works the camera. The HTC camera stinks. My previous 8525 camera video capture was light years ahead. But, that is all obsolete now. Guess I should look for dual core 720p phones.
